2024 JOB ANALYSIS INFORMATION

WHAT:
The NCCAOM is pleased to announce that the 2024 Job Task Analysis (JTA) Survey Executive Summary and a Full JA Technical Report are now available! The Job Analysis results are invaluable in defining NCCAOM exam content outlines at the entry-to-practice level. The data collected is essential for recognition and advancing the acupuncture and herbal medicine profession with government agencies, employers and other institutions.

WHY:
The acupuncture and herbal medicine profession, like most health care professions, requires standardization across the board (consistency, processes, and procedures) on a national level. The process of standardization would improve the level of competency and safety – not just statewide or local, but also nationally. A well-constructed job analysis (JA) is the foundation of a defensible professional certification program, establishing the link between test scores achieved on a certifying examination and the core knowledge, skills, and abilities that all competent practitioners must possess. A successful JA promotes exam content that is relevant, fair, and appropriate, which in turn leads to legally defensible, high-quality certification programs.

2026 Updated Content Outlines:

The NCCAOM is pleased to announce the release of the updated Exam Content Outlines, which will go into effect in 2026 (stay tuned for specific date to be announced later this year). These revised outlines reflect the most current competencies, knowledge areas, and skills essential for safe and effective practice in the acupuncture and herbal medicine profession. Developed through  NCCAOM’s rigorous 2024  Job Analysis study with input from licensed acupuncturists, educators, and subject matter experts, the new content outlines are designed to ensure that the NCCAOM certification exams remain valid, relevant, and aligned with evolving standards of patient care. We encourage all educators to review the updated outlines and update school curriculum to prepare for a smooth transition.
